🔍 Google Shopping price competitiveness | Review snippets reporting in GSC

Good morning search marketers, there are some new reports you might want to check out.

First, if you have reviews implemented on your site, you can now see review snippets performance and other reviews-related reporting in Google Search Console. It will show any errors, warnings and valid pages for ratings markup implemented on your site. You can also test review rich snippets in the Rich Results Test tools.

Second, if you run Google Shopping campaigns, the price competitiveness report is now available in Google Merchant Center for eligible accounts. We know price matters for visibility, traffic and conversions in Google Shopping, now this reporting can help you understand how your product pricing stacks up against your Google Shopping competitors. While you may not have direct control over product prices, this data can help inform your strategies. Thanks to Duane Brown of Take Some Risks Inc. for first alerting us to this roll out!

Duane will be among the experts speaking on digital commerce marketing at SMX West next week. I'll be kicking off the conference with a discussion on paid and organic search trends for commerce brands with executives from P&G and Under Armour. I hope you can join us in San Jose.

And speaking of SMX, Barry Schwartz sat down with our CEO Chris Elwell to talk about the very early days of search marketing with Danny Sullivan (who will be keynoting SMX Advanced), running the business behind our sites and events — oh, and that time Sergey Brin skated on stage. It's a great interview.

Keep reading for a Pro Tip on top of funnel campaigns and chatter about a Google search update.

Paid search marketers can find success with top of funnel campaigns

"The key to successful top-of-funnel campaigns is knowing when to leverage them – which businesses and situations tend to benefit from top-of-funnel campaigns – and how to run the most effective top-of-funnel campaigns," explains SMX West speaker Amy Bishop of Cultivative. "Targeting informational queries, for instance, is a great way to engage folks that are beginning to look for solutions to their problems – which is a key piece of the awareness stage."

"Equally, if not more important, is knowing how to handle the traffic that you receive from top-of-funnel campaigns. Since that traffic is cold, sending those visitors to the same low-funnel CTAs as your other campaigns will likely lead to high bounce rates and low conversion rates. Rather, it's important to understand what information that your prospects need in different stages of the funnel in order to develop resources and calls to actions that align with their current place in the buyer's journey. Doing this both increases your likelihood of conversion, which allows you to get a better measure of intent, but also allows you to build audiences which can be used in subsequent campaigns."

A possible big Google search algorithm update

Big Google search update. There is a lot of speculation from the SEO community and via the tracking tools of a big Google search algorithm update. We have asked Google and hopefully, they will tell us more about what's happening.

AMP custom CSS limits larger. The AMP team has increased the AMP custom CSS limits from 50KB to 75KB, it should be live later this month.

Site merges vs. site moves. Site merges, when you take two sites and merge them together, take longer than site moves, where you just move one site to a new domain name, said Google.
