🔍 New fine-tune controls for bidding | Google backtracks on Image referrer

Good morning, search marketers, are you ready for a productive week?

With Google Marketing Live behind us, you may still be digesting all of the announcements. I've compiled quick links to all of our coverage from the event below.

On Friday, Google shed a bit more light on some of the features that will roll out for bidding, and advertisers will be pleasantly surprised that they're aimed at giving you more control when you're using smart bidding. The one that will probably garner the most excitement is the ability to assign conversion actions at the campaign level rather than just the account level. You'll be able to assign the conversion actions that relate to the specific goals of each of your campaigns.

Also coming are seasonality adjustment scheduling, a conversion value rule and a new smart bidding strategy to maximize conversion value.

In not-great news, if you've been waiting for Google to start reporting your traffic from Image search in Google Analytics — because last year it said it would — sadly, it appears that that's no longer the plan. Eagle-eyed SEO AJ Kohn noticed Google quietly updated its post about the change to say that images.google.com will not start showing up as a referrer source in Google Analytics after all. The Performance report in Search Console will remain the only place to get that data.

Pro Tip

Maximizing your digital presence — in your own neighborhood — to boost business

To make the most of Nextdoor as a business marketing machine, Adam Dorfman, director of product at Reputation, recommends that businesses should:

"Have a presence. Yes, Nextdoor represents one more digital platform you'll need to manage. But it's also an opportunity. Be aware that customers are likely looking for you and your competitors on Nextdoor for local services and products, especially if you are a service-area business such as a plumber or contractor. Creating and managing a page seems like a must.

Apply offers if appropriate. If your business relies on offers and promotions to draw foot traffic, experiment with audience targeting across multiple neighborhoods to test how well offers perform based on location.

Manage your reputation. As noted, people who review your business on Nextdoor are likely to be known personally by other Nextdoor users in your immediate vicinity. Given the propensity of Nextdoor users to review businesses, be vigilant in managing your customer ratings/reviews."

Hiding content from Google? Well, here is what to expect.

Content hidden in tabs.  While we know content hidden within tabs on mobile sites will be indexed and rank in Google, Google said they won't show that content in the search results snippets.

You know your SEO problem. Google's John Mueller tells an SEO that he is aware of his SEO problems and they should fix it.

Machine Learning changing fast. Google's Paul Haahr said machine learning is changing fast – and posts on Twitter an example of just how fast.
