๐Ÿ” Yoast extends schema support to images and video

Good morning, search marketers, are you adding schema markup to your content yet?

If you're looking for a way to add structured data to your content, Yoast SEO has extended its schema support to include images and video. This latest update pulls information from your content to generate the corresponding code; Yoast says that all you have to do is input good titles, descriptions, and thumbnails.

Snippets, knowledge panels, video carousels, local listings — search results have and will continue to evolve. Adding structured data is one of the ways you can help search engines make sense of all the content you're creating. Targeting keywords is crucial and may help you rank better, but structured data can enhance how your results appear. If you're already creating the content and optimizing it for search, you might as well go all the way to make it as competitive as possible.

Keep on reading for an exciting update to next month's SMX Advanced agenda, as well as a Pro Tip on how multi-channel attribution can help inform investments, and much more.

Here's why multi-channel attribution is important to your bottom line

"Search is typically a new customer acquisition channel, and you can find new customers at varying levels of cost. As you move up the funnel within search marketing, it tends to cost more to acquire new customers," explains Steve Costanza of Sidecar. Inside Info: How Google & Bing Handle Spam & Penalties

If you're an experienced SEO, you can probably recite the Google webmaster guidelines and Bing webmaster guidelines in your sleep. But do you really know what goes on behind the scenes when it comes to policy and decisions regarding spam and penalties? If you want the true inside scoop, be sure to attend Google & Bing Talk Spam & Penalties at SMX Advanced on June 5.

Join Fili Wiese, former Google Search Quality team member, and Frรฉdรฉric Dubut, who leads the anti-spam team at Bing, for a candid conversation on how both engines are fighting spam and handling manual penalties. They'll discuss:

  • Current webmaster guidelines: the things both Bing and Google think are bad and the subtle differences between the two.
  • All about penalties: the philosophy behind them, how they are applied by each engine and how to get reconsidered.
  • What's new: the latest blackhat SEO they're seeing and why it's still prudent to avoid the dark side.

Both Fili and Frรฉdรฉric will also participate in Overtime, where they'll be available to personally answer any and all questions you may have. Check out the full SMX Advanced agenda and register now.

Backlinks, legs and URLs.

Horses & Snakes. Google is investigating why it said horses have six legs and snakes have four legs in its featured snippets section.

Almost there. The Google Search Console delays are pretty much resolved, but Google said the backlink report needs a bit more time.

Keep it simple. Stop adding multiple URLs for the same piece of content. Google's John Mueller said "You're adding complexity that may or may not work as you'd like."
