E-commerce sites and Google's URL parameters tool

"Google might not always respect the rules in the URL Parameters tool," says Chris Long, a Technical SEO at Go Fish Digital, after running a test. 

"Of course, this isn't to say that Google is always ignoring the URL parameters report. However, in this particular instance, we can see that it might be the case. If you're an e-commerce site, I would recommend not making assumptions about how Google's crawling your parameters and check the log files to confirm crawl activity."

Robots.txt, biking, duplicate content and user agents.

Special files in robots.txt.  Google has a new short video on the question of special files in your robots.txt file.  The video goes over special files in robots.txt such as *.css, php.ini, and .htaccess, and explains why you should not disallow these files from being crawled.

Google Maps and bikes. Now you can find bikeshare docks and availability in your biking directions in the Google Maps app. This is now rolling out in select cities.

Duplicate content and site migrations. "There's no need to worry about duplicate content if you're migrating it from one site to another," John Mueller of Google said.

GoogleBot UA. Google said the user agent will still be passed by GoogleBot despite what Chrome may be doing with its user agents.
