Good morning, search marketers, do you have a searing memory of an update?

After his SMX Next keynote in which he covered the past 20 years of Google algorithm updates, Barry asked several veteran SEOs about their most memorable updates. Looks like we'll be chatting about these things virtually for some time. Just 3 out of 10 marketers are expecting to attend in-person events before the end of the first half of 2021. That's according to the responses from our third survey of marketers on their feelings about attending in-person events that we fielded in June. Most — 81% — have attended a virtual event in the past three months, and 75% of them say they're satisfied with those experiences. Google may tweak local search ranking algorithm

Google local algorithm on business names. There have been some complaints about business names having too much weight with the Google local search ranking algorithm.  Google's Danny Sullivan hinted on Twitter that this may change, saying, "I know the team really is working to better deal with this type of stuff. I also know that as that's been heard before. But I do expect improvements should be noticeable in the near future."

Moon Day at Google. On Moon Day, Google put a logo up celebrating the life of Dr. Dilhan Eryurt.  

Bookmarking site links.  Here is what John Mueller of Google said on bookmarking sites. "When it comes to SEO, you don't need to use bookmarking sites. These links are ignored by search engines. Instead of spending time submitting URLs, I'd work on creating great content and finding useful ways to promote it to real users. Make something awesome & talk about it."
