Good morning Search Marketer, welcome to Friday, I hope you have some nice weekend plans.
Nicole DeLeon's North Star Inbound has released its Diversity and Inclusion in SEO report. It is an in-depth, detailed look at 326 SEOs perceptions of and experiences with bias and discrimination across different groups, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+. Roughly 90% of both BIPOC and white SEOs say bias is a problem in the industry. Within their own companies, 59% of BIPOC respondents and 56% white respondents said bias and discrimination is a problem.
The report outlines the impact that gender, racial, ethnic, sexual orientation and other biases have on those who experience discrimination, including decreased productivity, earnings and well-being.
In addition to comments from respondents, one of the most instructive and impactful pieces of the report is the section on microaggressions and the subtle and not-so-subtle ways bias and discrimination take form. Whether you're a manager, a client or a teammate, I encourage you to take a look. And, Nicole's full write-up is available on the Moz blog.
Store hours, services and inventory fluctuations during the pandemic have led to a surge in customer calls to local businesses. Google is testing a new "call history" feature in Google My Business to let businesses see and respond to missed calls from their Search and Maps listings. The feature relies on Google forwarding numbers and missed calls will be reported in a calls tab in GMB.
