Good morning search marketers, what will your job look like in 5 years?
Last week at SMX Advanced, I sat down with Frederick Vallaeys to talk about what the future holds for digital marketers, his experiences as an early AdWords team member at Google (he cross-checked Sergey in a hockey game) and more. His new book, Digital Marketing In An AI World, offers a look at what roles for PPC marketers and agencies will look like and what skills you'll need to stay successful as use of machine learning accelerates. Have a listen or read a lightly edited and condensed version here.
The performance report in Google Search Console now shows 90 days of historical data. That's up from just 28 days, which means much better trending insights about your organic performance on Google.
The inclusion of XML Sitemaps as a WordPress Core feature could become a reality. A proposal by a group of Yoast and Google team members as well as other contributors also introduces an XML Sitemaps API. The initial integration would meet minimum search engine requirements, but not cover image, video or news sitemaps, XML Sitemaps caching mechanisms or user-facing changes such as UI controls that exclude individual posts or pages from the sitemap.
If you've got a new or restructured site, you can now submit as many as 500 URLs to Bing in one API call. The new Batch API means you no longer need to make a separate API call for each URL you submit. Earlier this year, Bing introduced its indexing API and requested that sites begin using it to notify Bing of new URLs and content for it to index. You may submit up to 10,000 URLs per day — now in batches of 500 with the Batch API.
