🔍 Google algo update timings|AMP bug affecting your traffic?

Good morning search marketers, time to update your annotations and calendars.

Google confirmed that the June 2019 core update finished rolling out on the 8th, which means it took (just) 5 days to take effect globally. Meanwhile, the so-called diversity update rolled out between June 4 and 6, so there's overlap to account for when you're looking at your analytics and the potential impact of either of these updates.

If you're a Google Data Studio user, you might be interested in a free data connector for Google Trends that marketing firm StrategiQ launched this week.

And if you're an AMP user, take note: your traffic may be impacted by a bug. When a user goes to the Google AMP cache version of a page from Google search, clicking on the link to go to the main domain does not work. Google says it's aware and is looking into it.

Are you finding Facebook advertising isn't performing the way it used to? You're not alone. The landscape has changed, Susan Wenograd of Aimclear told the audience at SMX Advanced. In a flooded social arena, success on Facebook is no longer just about media buying. It's about strategy and creative execution. "Brands and agencies that can measure and understand triggers of brand lift will win the long game in expensive media arenas," Wenograd said.

Lots more below including why you should be rethinking your video assets and more.

It's time to rethink your video assets. Here's why.

We need to examine the way we put together video ads because now we have less control over the new dynamic ad formats with Discovery Ads from Google. "Creative disruption and ad decomposition doesn't have to be a bad thing – we simply need to organize for it," explains Anders Hjorth of Innovell. "This comes down to rethinking the way brand assets are put together and how team communication channels are used. Advertisers should build video ads with various outputs: six seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 90 seconds. This requires a different creative process, with a focus on the input rather than the output. Essentially it is one story to be told in various time frames from various angles and with various formats of output."

Google conferences are coming...

Google webmaster conferences. Google is hosting its own webmaster conferences now, mostly in locations where you can't find good quality SEO events. The first ones are in India and Indonesia.

Google sitemaps API indexed counts. Google's Search Console API for the sitemap reports won't be showing you your indexed counts numbers anymore.

Title tags matter. Yes, title tags do matter in SEO but, for some reason, Gary Illyes from Google thinks people don't believe him about that.
