Good morning, search marketers, it's time to deal with pay discrepancies.
Nicole DeLeon and her team's recent research on the gender gap in SEO might have caught your attention. It certainly caught ours. Regardless of how women SEOs charge for their work — retainer, project, by the hour — they are, on average, making much less than male SEOs. That's not just bad for women, it's bad for the entire industry.
This Friday, I'll be chatting with Nicole, who is founder and lead strategist of North Star Inbound; Aleyda Solis, international SEO Consultant & Founder at Orainti; and Amanda Jordan, director of local search at Locomotive Agency, about what the research says and ways agencies, in-house teams and consultants can help achieve equitable gender representation and pay in the search industry.
To join us live at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, please fill out this form.
DeLeon offers several thoughts on solutions to these long-standing issues in her write up on the data on the Moz blog that I highly recommend reading. Her team is also currently fielding a survey to better understand the experiences of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ SEOs. You can take that survey here.
