🔍 Facebook advertisers pledge to quit for July

Good morning Search Marketer, we're on a roll.

Day two of SMX Next starts at 1:00 p.m. ET today with keynotes from Greg Sterling on Google My Business and the evolution of local search and George Nguyen on content marketing in times of disruption.

Barry Schwartz dazzled the audience with a history of Google algorithm updates of the past 20 years and how SEOs can prepare for the next big one. I welcomed PPC marketers to the Predictive Marketing Era and discussed why, in this age of machine learning and AI, we need to focus on the bigger picture and look at revenue optimization instead of just channel optimization. I also sat down with Microsoft Advertising's GM Steve Sirich to chat about the future of search and digital marketing.

Then we heard from many great marketers, such as Bruce Clay, Cyrus Shepard, Danielle Waller, Holly Miller Anderson, Mike Henderson, Chrisi Olson and John Shehata to name just a few. If you missed any of yesterday's sessions, not to worry: they're all on-demand with your free registration.

Thanks for joining us,

Ginny Marvin,
Editor-in-Chief

AMP is not cheating.

Google update again. Yes, we are seeing more unconfirmed reports of a Google search ranking update. This one seemed to have started on Tuesday, June 23rd.

Google what to watch. Google has updated its 'what to watch' carousel to show a hover over action with more details about the movie or TV show.

AMP isn't cheating. Using AMP is not cheating, said Google's John Mueller. He said, "You can make slow AMP pages, you can make fast legacy pages. Using a framework that's designed to be fast isn't cheating when it comes to speed — if it's the right tool for the job, then it's a potentially logical approach. Luckily, there are lots of ways to make fast sites."
