🔍 Texting = High ROI for brands

Good morning Search Marketer, is texting part of your marketing program?

Text messaging may be the most underutilized marketing opportunity. Before you dismiss it, a recent survey found that more than 50% of consumers said they want texts from their favorite brands. Retail brands in particular have found it to be a low-cost, high ROI channel — and one that works extremely well in tandem with email.

Facebook is getting back in the search game a bit. Searching for an entity like a movie, show or celebrity may bring up a new knowledge panel-like box of information sourced from Wikipedia. It's another reason to check on any Wikipedia pages you manage as that content stands to gain more exposure withinn Facebook. We haven't heard much about search from Facebook for years. In 2014, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said making better search experiences in Facebook was "going to be a multiyear voyage." Bringing in Wikipedia content could also help the company address the big problem of misinformation on the platform.

If you don't have easy access to be able to optimize your Google product feed, supplemental feeds and feed rules in Google Merchant Center can be great options. Kirk Williams of ZATO marketing shared these tips and more in our discussion about Google Shopping on Live with Search Engine Land.

Nofollow confusion, native sitemaps in Wordpress and age of spam

Nofollow link confusion. Let's be honest, the nofollow link attribute change is a bit confusing. It seems like currently nothing was done with it, outside of Google reserving the right to do something with it.  But what can they do with it is confusing.

Native sitemap support for WordPress. It is coming really soon, native, built in, XML Sitemap support for WordPress.  They have been working on it for about a year now, but it should be ready soon.

Age of non-compliance. Have you been doing things against the Google webmaster guidelines for a while? Well, age doesn't matter said John Mueller of Google. He said on Twitter "if parts of your website don't comply with our webmaster guidelines, and you want to comply with our webmaster guidelines, then it doesn't matter how old those non-compliant parts are."

U.S. Snapchat > Twitter + TikTok

Snapchat claims to have more daily active users in the U.S. than Twitter and TikTok — combined. CEO Evan Spiegel told a virtual audience of partners yesterday that Snapchat has more than 229 million daily active users with 100 million in the U.S.

Last quarter, Twitter reported 33 million U.S. average monetizable daily active users. TikTok doesn't report user data, but has 37 million users, according to one report. TikTok is growing rapidly in 2020, though. You can watch Snap's full Partner Summit keynote here

Why we care. Snapchat has been focusing on product updates — including an app redesign announced yesterday — and features to engage users and attract advertisers. It's been building out its performance advertising products, including commerce-oriented formats and features. It's also got a formidable new competitor as TikTok gains traction. Check out our comparison TikTok vs. Snapchat guide for marketers
