🔍 Bing Ads goes 3D | Google intros Budget Planner

Good morning, search marketers, a new dimension has arrived in search.

Have you seen 3D ads in Bing search results yet? We haven't (either), but they're out there to promote the Samsung S10 phone. Bing Ads, Samsung and Starcom agency Performics teamed up for the experimental desktop ad format. Users can rotate, zoom in and out and see product details in the ads, which expand to full-screen. Let us know if you see these in the wild — or have thoughts to share on where this might head — at editors@searchengineland.com.

Google Ads users, take a look under the Tools menu to see if the Budget Planner is showing up in your accounts. Rolling out now, the new Budget Planner forecasting tool shows how changes in spend might affect campaign performance. Forecasts are based on your campaign history and auction data. You can't use it for new campaign forecasting, but you might check it out to see how changes you've got in mind might play out in your existing campaigns.

"Privacy legislation is not anti-advertising," DuckDuckGo CEO Gabriel Weinberg told the Senate Judiciary during a hearing on online privacy regulation Tuesday in making a case for a return to a contextual advertising on the web. The anti-tracking search engine says its contextual ad model has been profitable since 2014.

Lots more below, including a Pro Tip on Firebase indexing for apps. And happy 30th birthday, World Wide Web!

Here's how to implement Firebase indexing for your app

Let's get back to basics about app store optimization to improve your app's visibility. That means we need to review Firebase indexing (the tool to make your app content available within Google's search listings) to create universal links in your apps for both Google Play and Apple App stores.

"Universal links enable apps to process HTML URLs. The process of setting up these links between an app and website differs for each app store. For iOS devices, upload 'Associated Domains Entitlement' in Xcode which lists the domains you want to associate with the app. Then you upload the 'app-to-site association JSON file' to each of these domains. The app should then be connected to the website and vice versa.

For Android devices, the concept is the same. Connect the app using Firebase Assistant in Android Studio, and add the app indexing library to the project. Then, the structure needs to be defined and corresponding app screens need to be created matching HTTP URLs. Finally, add Android app links," explains Serena Pearson of the Kaizen agency.
