Good morning, search marketers, seen any smart displays lately?
As we look to the future of voice search, smart speakers still dominate, but smart displays are quickly gaining traction (think Google Home Hub, Amazon Echo Spot). That's according to two recent surveys. By the end of 2018, roughly 13 percent of smart speakers in U.S. homes had displays, up from a tiny 3 percent just the year before. That means there are now nearly 9 million smart displays in the market. People aren't using smart speakers much to buy things, but smart displays could change that behavior.
Optimizing images is becoming even more important. Google appears to be showing more thumbnail images in mobile search results snippets. Some 70 percent or more of search results show as many as 5 image thumbnails, according to Moz and RankRanger.
SEM folks, if you're using the Google Ads API, a new query builder is available, and you don't have to be a developer to use it. The web interface is marketer-friendly to build out queries for reporting.
And in case you missed the first installment of SMX Overtime last week, SEO and SMX speaker Lily Ray has answers to audience questions from the "Machine vs. Man: What Really Matters For SEO Success" session at SMX West in San Jose.
