🔍 More ads coming to Google Images

Good morning, search marketers, have you explored any new horizons lately?

Image search. The next frontier in monetization.

It's true that ads in Image search aren't totally new (Google extended Shopping ads to Image search in 2016), but get ready for ads to dominate the top of product-related Image search results.

Advertisers' Showcase Shopping ads (the ones with multiple product images) may now also start showing up in Image Search. Plus, Google is continuing to test its big Shoppable Ads (a la Pinterest and Instagram) for top of funnel queries in Image search.

With the latest update of Moz's Domain Authority metric, we asked Russ Jones of Moz about how SEOs should — and shouldn't — use DA. "Domain Authority is meaningless when it isn't compared to other sites, full stop," said Jones.

These days, automation for SEO is about so much more than making tasks less redundant. Columnist Jim Yu says SEOs who want to be the leaders of tomorrow should embrace automation to "scale and succeed in all facets of digital." And, Yu says, look to AI to simplify complex decision-making and prioritize your efforts all while improving consumer experiences.

Set aside some time this afternoon to join me and Andreas Reiffen of Crealytics for a webinar at 1:00 pm ET. We'll be discussing the evolution of search and our perspectives on the role automation will play in its future. Andreas will then present on "Google's Black Box Bidding Solution: A look under the hood."

JavaScript publishers: Here's how to view rendered HTML pages via desktop

"Many don't know this but you can use the Rich Results Test to view the rendered HTML based on Googlebot desktop. Once you test a URL, you can view the rendered HTML, page loading issues and a JavaScript console containing warnings and errors," explains Glenn Gabe of G-Squared Interactive. "And remember, this is the desktop render, not mobile. The tool will show you the user-agent used for rendering was Googlebot desktop."

"When you want to view the rendered HTML for a page, I would start with Google's tools (in this article). But that doesn't mean they are the only ways to check rendered pages," Gabe added. "Between Chrome, third-party crawling tools and some plugins, you have several more rendering weapons in your SEO arsenal."

Google rankings, image SEO & BingBot working...

Another Google ranking update? It has been a busy few weeks. We are seeing signs of yet another Google ranking update that touched down yesterday.

Image location doesn't matter. John Mueller, a Google webmaster trends analyst, said whether you host images on your own domain or on a different domain doesn't impact how well your site ranks in Google Image search.

BingBot verifies. Did you know that BingBot not only crawls your site but also verifies your site in Bing Webmaster Tools?
