🔍 Enterprise indexing woes | AMP upgrades | Schema FTW!

Good morning, search marketers, are you AMPed up for the coming week?

Would it surprise you to hear that half of enterprise pages aren't being indexed? It's not a content optimization problem, it's "a result of how these websites were built," said Adrien Menard, CEO of Botify. Different versions of pages and sites built for desktop, mobile, AMP are causing various indexing snags. Here's to indexing the other 50 percent.

The AMP team has introduced several feature updates so far this year, such as the ability to minimize video in the corner of the viewport as users scroll down a page. The video keeps playing while users scroll.

AMP Stories are also getting a bunch of feature updates. (If you're using those, I'd love to hear how it's going at editors@searchengineland.com).

Also, e-commerce sites can now submit their products to Google Merchant Center via schema on their sites. Not just for ads anymore, GMC will power product visibility in organic results now too. (FWIW, Pinterest already crawls sites for schema which it uses to power rich pins.)

If you've been meaning to send us your thoughts on Google's CTR on rankings statement, you're not too late. We'll be featuring reader feedback in a newsletter this week. As always, shoot us a note at editors@searchengineland.com.

There's more below, including a Pro Tip based on Marie Kondo's … messy website.

Marie Kondo's site is not so tidy

Who doesn't feel a spark of joy when organic performance increases? But if you log into your rank tracker and analytics dashboards and you're not seeing the kind of joy you expect, "quit spending time on those tactics and get back to the basics," says Grant Oster of Wunderman.

So we turn to the queen of tidy, Marie Kondo, to see if she practices what she preaches online.

After a cursory audit by Oster of konmarie.com, he found she has some tidying to do with her categories and is in need of a technical audit to deal with a few 404s and incomplete Open Graph tags.

Finding joy for SEO means developing an organized method of reviewing a site's structure. "Breaking the site down by category makes it more manageable to deliver recommendations and for clients to implement impactful changes to the site," advises Oster.

Things are moving...

Episode 1. Google's first video on JavaScript SEO is about how Google indexes JavaScript websites. It is basic but a good starter video.

We've moved. Google is moving their support forums to a new platform. The Google News, YouTube and others have moved already but the web search and webmaster forums are moving this month.

Google Analytics impact. Changes are coming and those who use Safari might not be tracked properly in Google Analytics soon.

Digital Exhaustion in a 24/7 world: How to fight back

We live in a 24/7 world where we are more connected than ever, yet the very people who are making the technology don't want their own kids to use it. Why is that? How do online friends, Instagram likes and what trolls say about you matter more than our real-world friends? Digital addiction is real and something we all need to watch out for.

If you are feeling burned out, stressed and anxious about going to work, or even being at work, then it may be time to take a step back and talk to someone. We may be living in one of the greatest moments in history but that should not come at the expense of your mental, physical or emotional health. You are not your job nor should you worry about it like we are saving lives. We are not nurses or doctors.

Less screen time, watching Netflix and checking your phone. More time spent on hobbies that happen in the real world. What is your latest hobby for 2019? What have you always wanted to try out? Mine is making ginger beer from scratch.
