Good morning, search marketers, are you voicing your queries these days?
One of the biggest reasons sites get hacked? SEO spamming. And it's on the rise. A Sucuri report found that 51 percent of hacked sites in 2018 were targeted for "manipulation of search engine optimization." That's up from 44 percent in 2017. Most troubling is how hard it can be to detect so-called Search Engine Poisoning attacks.
More evidence that voice is on the rise is here with Stone Temple Consulting's third-annual report on voice. One in five people use voice to search on their phones, with voice being the second-most popular option for conducting mobile searches on their phones – behind mobile browsers – the report found.
Yelp has launched a new "Verified Licenses" program for local providers. The $1 a day paid product is similar to Google's Local Services ads. As with "Google Guaranteed" businesses, those verified by Yelp have badges displayed next to their listings. Yelp says testing showed higher visibility and engagement — particularly for businesses with few reviews.
Bing rolled Maximize Clicks to all advertisers globally. The automated bidding strategy aims to drive the highest number of clicks within budget. Bing does offer some controls, including a max CPC and the ability to set manual bids for certain keywords and ad groups in a campaign.
