Good morning search marketers, have you been paying attention to Pinterest's search tech?
Pinterest continues to advance its visual search and commerce capabilities. Its Lens technology can now identify 2.5 billion fashion and home products, and the company is adding fashion- and home-related shoppable Product Pins. When users zoom in on a product in a home or fashion retailer's Pin with Lens, they'll be able to see the current price and a direct link to checkout on the retailer's site. Users can also save photos from Lens searches and turn them into Pins. These features can all help shorten the customer journey by bridging the gap between product discovery and purchase on Pinterest.
Most prohibited content (counterfeit goods, illegal products and services, etc.) and restricted content (political ads, alcohol, etc.) are governed by similar standards from one platform to the next, but each company has its own set of rules. Rather than having to dig around for those exceptions, we've done the work for you and compiled a round-up of ad content policies across search and social platforms such as Google, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook and others. It'll be a good one to bookmark.
With Google taking up so much oxygen in local search, how much does having accurate local citations from other sources matter now? Greg Sterling reached out to a number of local SEOs to ask just that. While there are some differences of opinion, all agreed on a list of primary and secondary sources, and many see the value in cleaning up and building out citations on your respective vertical. Phil Rozek of LocalVisibilitySystem.com said, "To the extent you spend time researching citation sources, I suggest focusing on industry (niche) sites." BrightLocal's Myles Anderson added, "A well maintained, review-rich listing on these types of sites have value beyond purely Google ranking. They'll drive high intent customers direct to a business."
If you're using the Yoast plugin for WordPress, note that the latest update adds your custom favicon to the mobile snippet preview, matches Google's font sizes on desktop search results and introduces new schema filters.
